Iraq: Fuel Oil Exported Through Jordan to Global Markets
Al-Taj News – Iraqi Ministry of Oil spokesman Salim Al-Rikabi said that the Ministry of Oil, through the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO), has contracted with companies that purchase fuel oil products on an “ex-warehouse” basis and export them through the Port of Aqaba and via Jordanian territory.
Al-Rikabi added that the quantities of fuel oil exported through Jordan are “not fixed,” explaining that they depend on the number of tanker trucks, security permits, and the status of the Port of Aqaba.
The Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) had announced in May and June 2026 that quantities of fuel oil were being offered for export, with the product to be transported by tanker trucks through the available land crossings. The company’s report on March 2026 exports also indicated that land exports of fuel oil by tanker trucks had resumed.
- Haditha-Aqaba Pipeline
Regarding the Haditha-Aqaba oil pipeline project, Al-Rikabi said that “the pipeline project is still under study at present.”
The Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project extends for 1,600 kilometers, including the construction of the first section inside Iraqi territory (Rumaila–Haditha) over a distance of approximately 700 kilometers, with a designed capacity of 2.25 million barrels, and the construction of the second section inside Jordanian territory (Haditha-Aqaba) over a distance of 900 kilometers, with a designed capacity of one million barrels.
